The Black Suitcase by Shannon Cervone, Alessandro Vene (Illustrations)

Image
The Black Suitcase by Shannon Cervone My rating: 3 of 5 stars *Copy provided by Turn the Page Publishing via Netgalley* Eddie, a little boy doesn't like it when his daddy has to travel all the time, and knows that when he see the black suitcase come out that it's time yet again for his dad to so. So in order to stop him thinks hiding it will get him to stay. He doesn't understand why his friends dad doesn't have to go away but his does. This a great story for families who have a parent who has to travel often for work. It helps to explain why some parents have to go away for their jobs. It talks about responsibilities, comparing the child tiding up their toys to the father having to go to away for work. It also explains that they are not leaving them because they want to be away from them but because this what they need to do make life better for them and provide things like a house, food, clothes. It also shows a great example of something that parent and child can

Tell No Lies by Julie Compton

Image
Tell No Lies by Julie Compton My rating: 3 of 5 stars I really thought as I was reading Tell No Lies that I wasn't going to enjoy it. And to be honest it took quite a while for me to really get into the story. I wanted to yell and scream at Jack, tell him not to be stupid. Okay so I didn't see that ending coming. I knew something was going to come out of (Show Spoiler) the file on the murder of Jenny's parents back when she was a child, but I never thought it was what is reveled. I thought it was going to say that she was the one who murdered them. Show/hide Looking forward to reading the second book, Keep No Secrets . I don't particularity like Jack and I didn't like Jenny. It's the ending of Tell No Lies that has gotten my attention peaked. View all my reviews

The Secret by Julie Garwood My rating: 5 of 5 stars **5 amazingly wonderful stars out of 5** I knew from the very first line, that I was going to treasure this book. This was my first Julie Garwood book and I don't think I could have started with a better one. I am looking forward to many more adventures with her. View all my reviews

Gnome on the Range by Jennifer Zane

Image
Gnome on the Range by Jennifer Zane My rating: 4 of 5 stars Going into this book I was thinking okay quick read that will be silly. *Points to cover, glances at title* And well I was correct. The amount of times I laughed and laughed I can't count, very very humors book. I even snorted, yep that's right I snorted and loudly might I add, because there was so many comical parts. "You got it stuck where?" I got a kick out of all the characters, Goldie especially. Oh and well can not leave out Ty, yummy fire man!!! What I didn't see coming was the nice little mystery involved. Jane, a mom of 2 and widow works at an "adult" store, owned by her mother-in-law, Goldie.. Doesn't have a whole lot of excitement going on in her life, until the day of the garage sale, the day her sons buy those two darn garden gnomes. 4 stars, because it did what it promise it would do and gave me a little bit more. Reassigned (Codename Fairy Godmother, #1) by Tanjlisa Marie

Image
Reassigned by Tanjlisa Marie My rating: 4 of 5 stars **Copy given for an honest review** What a fantastic book, I'm sorry I waited so long to read it.(I won't lie I kind of forgot about it sorry Tanjlisa Marie ) I drank this book, I gulped it down, I couldn't get enough of it. Agent Thunder is a huntress with the Fairy Godmother Organization, she hunts down the humans who default on their wishes. All children who are granted a wish by their fairy godmother must repay that wish to another before they turn the age of 32. And if they don't Agent Thunder gets to pay them a little visit to help refresh their memory and she's good at what she does and gets much joy in doing her job. All that changes when she as a run in with a leprechaun named Ciaran. What a unique idea for a story. So refreshing. As much as I love reading urban fantasy with vampires, werewolves, shifters, magic users, etc. I have yet to encounter a fairy godmother. And no I don't mean the bibbidi

The Comfort of Lies by Randy Susan Meyers

Image
The Comfort of Lies by Randy Susan Meyers My rating: 4 of 5 stars **First of I would like to thank Atria Books for giving me this copy, via Netgalley** I'm unsure how I felt when reading The Comfort of Lies , was I moved? Did I connect to the characters? Not really. I had certain expectations going into this, I thought when I sat down to read it that maybe I should move the tissue box a little closer, just in case. I didn't need them. I guess all the characters could make someone feel for them, but for most part any low times and sadness is due to their own actions. Everyone in this book makes mistakes, they do things they shouldn't, say and have thoughts they wish could be taken back, but that is life. We all do or say things we shouldn't, there isn't anyone who has never lied. The only innocents in this book, are the children involved. I do need to give some praise to the author, Randy Susan Meyers . It was well written and kept my attention despite my lack of

Zylan Captive (Zylar's Moons, #1) by Ravyn Wilde

Image
Zylan Captive by Ravyn Wilde My rating: 2 of 5 stars **Warning, ranting and spoilers can be found in this review** Tar is ruler of Zylar, a planet where men dominate over their lifemate and the women have to submit to them. After much searching he has found his life-mate, his companion. Who just happens to be a human female from Earth. Nyssa, on awakening discovers she is no longer in her own bed, and not even on her own planet. Not only that there are gold chains connecting to parts of her body. So we have bonding, links, and physic chain sex oh my!! Can't forget a planet of alpha males and the You must obey me!!! attitude. If you don't you shall be tortured with sex, taking you higher and higher until you can not handle anymore but because this punishment you shall not hit that spot unless you submit and obey me, for I am Mr. alpha male. Do not question me!! Rawr! Okay complaints: There was some parts of the story that were alright but the events involving that part of the

Promise Me This by Cathy Gohlke

Image
Promise Me This by Cathy Gohlke My rating: 4 of 5 stars I knew when I started reading Promise Me This that I was setting myself up for heartbreak and sadness. How could I not, the story partially takes place aboard the Titanic, and we all know the events of that fateful night. We know about the hundreds of souls lost to the cold deep Atlantic ocean. Then we have World War I, another tragic momentous stain on our past. So like I said I knew what I getting myself into. Both moments in history that has always fascinated me, along with other events in history. Part of the reason I was drawn to reading this book. But those were not the only tragic events, yes they are not wide scale as the sinking of the Titanic or the WWI but the personal tragedies that have happened to those in the story, both living and and those who have past on. This book is about getting past those times, as well as facing them head on. Forgiveness and doing well towards other, no matter who they are or what they

On Dark Shores: The Lady by J.A. Clement

Image
On Dark Shores: The Lady by J.A. Clement My rating: 3 of 5 stars On Dark Shores was a book that I might not have even noticed when looking on goodreads or amazon if it wasn't for the fact that it was offered as a freebie at the time. Is now? I haven't a clue. This book was great from the start, and it kept me turning the pages, or rather swiping my finger across the screen. There are so many characters and we the reader have been fed tidbits of things regarding them. But not their full tales, a thing that hope is resolved in the next books because I have so many questions. It's a hard book to rate and review, at least for me. Because of the fact that is obviously an intro to the series. I do have a slight complaint, well other then it being too short. It just ended, my kindle told me I have at least 8% left so I thought something was going to get resolved, but nope. I am now left wondering why such and such happened. And not only did it just end, it was well pretty much

Nightwalker (Dark Days, #1) by Jocelynn Drake

Image
Nightwalker by Jocelynn Drake My rating: 3 of 5 stars I liked Nightwalker it was a good start to what looks to be an interesting series. I'm not going to lie, for the first part I couldn't keep focus on it. I'd pick it up read for a bit and find my mind going elsewhere. It was slow starting for me and I feared that it wasn't going to be as good as I had hopped it would be. But like little trooper I am and yes as soon as I typed the words trooper I put on Iron Maiden. But anyways back to the book :P Mira is a nightwalker, a vampire, but she's not like the others, she can set things on fire. There isn't anything light and fluffy about Nightwalker it is a much darker story, reminding me of some books that was written in the 90s, Tanith Lee 's Blood Opera Series comes to mind. What I liked about this is it's not the normal vampire story. We have vampire hunter(s), and well vampires but the thing is they are not the big bad so to speak, there is somethin

Heart Like Mine: A Novel by Amy Hatvany

Image
Heart Like Mine: A Novel by Amy Hatvany My rating: 4 of 5 stars **First of all I would like to say this was an uncorrected ARC via Netgalley, Heart Like Mine comes out March 19th, 2013 .** Nobody is perfect, we all have our stories to tell, some are more tragic then the others. Things happen, it can break you or make you stronger. Time doesn't make the hurt go away, doesn't make you forget, it's these moments that decide how you are going to live. Heart Like Mine is told from the pov of Grace and Ava. With Kelli's story being told weaved in between. Amy Hatvany has written such an emotional story, the reader will have no trouble connecting to at least one of the characters. Grace a women who never wanted to be a mom, Ava a young girl who's is forced to grow up way too fast, and Kelli who just wanted to be loved and motherhood is all she has. I have to be honest, I know I'm probably in the minority when I say this but didn't really like Grace when this

Kiss of Midnight (Midnight Breed, #1) by Lara Adrian

Image
Kiss of Midnight by Lara Adrian My rating: 4 of 5 stars Kiss of Midnight was a great book, reminded me of J.R. Ward 's Black Dagger Brotherhood series, which is a complement. I personally found this book to be better then the first BDB. I really enjoyed this story, there was an *eye-roll* moment close to the end that got me thinking, "oh yes the typical such and such scene" but I can over look it, the book was never claiming to be an original in the genre. Lara Adrian 's take on the history of vampires is the twist which gives it its own uniqueness that makes it stand on its own two feet from the others. I had many "oh shit" moments and many surprises where I thought I knew but I didn't, I was close but completely shocked. Do I even need to ask this? Will I be reading the next book? Hell yes! Tiger in My Soup by Kashmira Sheth, Jeffery Ebbeler (Illustrations)

Image
Tiger in My Soup by Kashmira Sheth My rating: 4 of 5 stars Tiger in My Soup by Kashmira Sheth is a delightful tale of a boy with a vivid imagination who while being babysat by his big sister, is shocked to find a tiger in his soup. He wants is his sister to read his book to him, but the sister would like to just get lost in her own reading. The boy decides to read it on his own, a book that happens to be about tigers in the jungle. Children will enjoy looking at the illustrations as this story is being read to or read by them. So much is told through the images, all while his sister is in her own little world. It is a cute story that I think all young children and parents will enjoy. Easy to understand, with words simple enough for children just learning to read, to be able to read it by themselves. Parents will enjoy watching their reactions as they read out loud the battle with the tiger. *Arc thanks to Peachtree Publishers via Netgalley* View all my reviews

Die for Me: A Novel of the Valentine Killer by Cynthia Eden

Image
Die for Me: A Novel of the Valentine Killer by Cynthia Eden My rating: 4 of 5 stars Die For Me is a romantic suspense that had me glued to it. With twists and events that keep you thinking everyone is involved. There were a few moments of "Oh I saw that coming" and to times of :O <---that face. After the initial start, I read it in one sitting. This was my first book by Cynthia Eden and I will definitely check out more of her work. What a first drew me to this book, was the cover. Yes I judged a book by it's cover, YOU ALL DO IT! ;) I have one small teeny tinny negative thing to say, the romantic side of the story. The pairing just didn't do it for me, I can understand the attraction and the sex, that was fine. Everything else just seemed to rushed and unbelievable. But over all this book was great, and it was just the little book break? Filler? I needed. A book just for me that was not challenge or review related. :) It was Just What I Needed I guess you'

Red Madrassa (Algardis, #1) by Terah Edun

Image
Red Madrassa by Terah Edun My rating: 3 of 5 stars ~I was given this book for an honest review.~ I don't really know where to being when it comes to writing this review. I found that I was having a rather difficult time getting into the story. Things didn't flow well with all the character jumping and place hoping. I understand that the author was trying to give us an introduction to those that will be in the story, but I think it could have be done a little better. The opening of a story is very important, and making it confusing and hard to get into, will get readers giving up before the story really starts. Once you get past the opening chapters and all the pov/place switching the story starts to get interesting. So those of you who are thinking about reading this book, you should stay with it despite the awkward start. However with that being said, I found it to be a little flat at times. The pages are moving yet we are getting no where. Things are missing in the story,

10 Nights (Forbidden Desires, #1) by Michelle Hughes , Karl Jones

Image
10 Nights by Michelle Hughes My rating: 3 of 5 stars Domination's the name of the game In bed or in life They're both just the same Except in one you're fulfilled At the end of the day Let's play master and servant You know when I first started reading this I was thinking 'okay, lets do this, lets get this party started' We have Leah who at 24 is a virgin, no big deal. Her dad as a lousy jerk who left her mom so doesn't really care for relationships. She meets Rhett, a Dom who wants to train her. Then as the story moves on, I'm finding I just want the story to move on. I'm sick of Leah. I'm sorry but I couldn't connect to her. Rhett I could handle, for awhile, but then things kinda got a bit out of hand and well I'm over him too. I can see why people like it and don't get me wrong I didn't hate it. I didn't mind it, I found myself glued to the book. And now for a little bit of Master and Servant by Hate Dept. (Originally b

Dream Caster by Najeev Raj Nadarajah

Image
Dream Caster by Najeev Raj Nadarajah My rating: 5 of 5 stars First of all I want to say thank you to Najeev Raj Nadarajah for gifting me a copy of Dream Caster thus giving me the chance to read and review your book, and wow what a book it is. I see big things for Najeev, and this series. I can only hope that more and more people find out about this book and this author. I completely loved it. What can I say it is unique, fantastic, wonderful, amazing. Those are just some of the words I could use when talking about this book. Very well written, with many humors moments, I found myself laughing out loud quite a few times. The characters are so likable. Naajeev has put so much thought in not just the main character but his supporting cast as well. He hasn't just written them in for the sake of doing so, they are not flat and could potentially have stories of their own to be told. Dell is definitely a favorite of mine. Dream Caster is set mainly in Toronto, Canada. Or what was on

The Horse and His Boy (Chronicles of Narnia, #3) by C.S. Lewis, Pauline Baynes (Illustrations)

Image
The Horse and His Boy by C.S. Lewis My rating: 5 of 5 stars What a delightful story. I rather enjoyed the whole thing. A tale for young and old, although at times while reading I got to thinking, that perhaps this story might be too much for children to read. Meaning, at least at the start, some of the wording might be a little difficult to understand. But I believe that was only a chapter or so I thought it. I loved Bree, in my head he was very proper sounding horse. View all my reviews

Accidental Abduction (Alien Abduction, #1) by Eve Langlais

Image
Accidental Abduction by Eve Langlais My rating: 3 of 5 stars I liked Accidental Abduction , I didn't love it. It was an okay story and there were some funny moments that had me laughing, some moments I wanted to speed through it. Megan was a tad annoying, but I guess in her situation it's understandable, well sort of. View all my reviews

A Necessary Deception by Laurie Alice Eakes

Image
A Necessary Deception by Laurie Alice Eakes My rating: 4 of 5 stars When I read the blurb for this book I thought, looks interesting I'll check it out. Much much better then I thought it was going to be. The story sucked me in from the start, and then as it moved along it just kept on getting better making me more and more interested. We have blackmail, mystery, murder, spies, a wedding and a coming out ball to plan, what's not to like about this book. So why not a full 5 stars then? Well as it got near to the end, somewhere in the 80 to 90% range things started to drag slightly and I just wanted to get back to the action of it all. This was my second book by Laurie Alice Eakes, and for me I thought this story was the better of the two. Will I read more from her? Yes, I'm looking forward to reading book two. Over all I would give this 4.5 Stars. View all my reviews
