The DUFF by Kody Keplinger

Image
The DUFF: Designated Ugly Fat Friend by Kody Keplinger My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars While this was nor the most spectacular piece of literature it was okay. A little mature I think. I can see younger girls wanting to read this, but it is definitely a young adult novel that is not aimmed at tweens. Just thought that I'd toss that out there for those who don't want their kids reading it. But other then the amount of sex lol, it's a light and quick read touching on some darker issues, such as aloholism. View all my reviews

How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff

Image
How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars Potential so much potential. I actually liked this book more then you would think based on my rating. So why 3.5? Well that's easy, at first I couldn't get in to it. I never liked the way it was written but then when I decided to not give up I found myself understanding and appreciating the writing. The stream of though of Daisy, it put you in her shoes somewhat. The other thing to dock points/stars was the ending. To be honest I didn't like how it played out. It wasn't what I was expecting. So as I said so much potential. I guess I'll check out the movie and see how it compares. View all my reviews

Before I Die by Jenny Downham

Before I Die by Jenny Downham My rating: 3 of 5 stars Life is made of moments, key dates and times. Key experences. Things that most take for granted because there is always tomorrow, things will happen when they will. Well what if you don't get tomorrow or what if tomorrow and today is all you have left. What if you don't know if you will make it to turn 17, you won't finish school, marry have kids, you won't grow old. This is the case for Tessa she is dying, and before she dies she has a list of things she wants to experience before she does. She wants to feel that she lived. So I have to let it be said that I really didn't like Tessa. She was really irritating, yes I understand she's dying but doesn't mean I have to actually like her. I felt for her, and I cried. I cried for her family and friends, for all that she will never experience. I cried at her different instructions. Because then we finally got to see the real girl underneath the sickn

The Jewel by Amy Ewing

Image
The Jewel by Amy Ewing My rating: 4 of 5 stars So first of all I LOVE the cover. It is just beautiful. Secondly the story its self was pretty good. The royal families are in trouble, they can not have their own children. They need young girls to care the baby for them. Each girl is tested once she has her first womanly cycle and if it comes back posture she is sent away to either the north, south, east or west gate to train to then become a suroggett. Once ready each girl is then but up for auction and sold to the highest bidder. OK so I thought the story was interesting, the writing was not what I would say up to par. The structure was choppy at times but it never affected my enjoyment. Looking forward to finding out what happens with violet and the other girls. View all my reviews

Glory O'Brien's History of the Future by A.S King

Glory O'Brien's History of the Future by A.S. King My rating: 4 of 5 stars So this was my first A.S King. I was not disappointed, in fact I'm even more excited to read more of her books. Especially when I see that her earlier ones are apparently better then this one. Holy smokes, I love when I get excited for an author. I have the lovely youtuber @ArielBissett to thank for for introducing me to this author through her videos. View all my reviews

The Opposite of Loneliness: Essays and Storied by Marina Keegan

Image
The Opposite of Loneliness: Essays and Stories by Marina Keegan My rating: 4 of 5 stars Too soon. These two words are what went through my thoughts as I read this book. Too soon. This life, this talent, this hope for the future, this positive being, lost, snuffed out, too soon. I was moved by her writings, her non-fiction mostly. While her stories were enjoyable it was her truths that sucked me in. Heartbreaking, her bright star blackened...too soon. View all my reviews
