Mennik Thorn, or Nik for short,is a mage. A mage for hire, freelancer. He is not the best of mages and he himself knows this. He's the mage that the other mages tend to look their noses down at. He's just been fired without payment, he's behind on rent. His luck seems to always be down. But he is a loyal friend, and well things can't get any worse??

Enter Benny, Nik's longest and well only friend. Here's the thing about Benny he's a thief, and he needs a favor from Nik, help to steal an item that is cursed. All Nik needs to do is break the curse, but here's the catch, said item is owned by one of the most powerful high mages in Agatos. 

What can go wrong?

Patrick Samphire has written characters that you just want to know more about. I can't help but like Nik, I found to him to be a lot like Harry Dresden minus his bad bits of Harry. Which for me was like a taking a sip of refreshing water (Not hating on Mr. Dresden but he's got a few things to work on). I enjoyed this character, I would like to know more about him and this world.  Benny and his eleven year old daughter Sereh who will cut you before you know she's there, the Ash Gaurd, Mica his sister. Just to name a few. 

Shadow of a Dead God is fill with twists, turns,  and I didn't expect that moments and oh yes before I forget ghosts. A mystery with mysteries with in it's pages. This will be a series to continue on with. Book 2 Nectar of the Gods is coming 2021 


Meet the Author:



Patrick Samphire started writing when he was fourteen years old and thought it would be a good way of getting out of English lessons. It didn’t work, but he kept on writing anyway.


He has lived in Zambia, Guyana, Austria and England. He has been charged at by a buffalo and, once, when he sat on a camel, he cried. He was only a kid. Don’t make this weird.

Patrick has worked as a teacher, an editor and publisher of physics journals, a marketing minion, and a pen pusher (real job!). Now, when he’s not writing, he designs websites and book covers. He has a PhD in theoretical physics, which means that all the unlikely science in his books is actually true. Well, most of it. Well, some of it. Maybe.

Patrick now lives in Wales, U.K. with his wife, the awesome writer Stephanie Burgis, their two sons, and their cat, Pebbles. Right now, in Wales, it is almost certainly raining.

He has published almost twenty short stories and novellas in magazines and anthologies, including Realms of Fantasy, Interzone, Strange Horizons, and The Year’s Best Fantasy, as well as one fantasy novel for adults, SHADOW OF A DEAD GOD, and two novels for children, SECRETS OF THE DRAGON TOMB and THE EMPEROR OF MARS.

Skinned by Robin Wasserman My rating: 3 of 5 stars May contain spoilers, cursing and ranting. When something bad happens to you, like an accident as what happened in this book to our main. It doesn't always mean death. If your brain is still working you can be downloaded into a new body. Some people if they have enough credit can have one specialty made if there is enough time for it. But the thing is you are no longer human. You can't bleed, eat, breath. You can feel pain to a degree only with extreme actions. Hot and cold mean nothing. You can feel slightly but it's not the same. You don't need to bathe, brush your teeth or use the bathroom. You're a machine that looks human and mentally you still are the same person but it's never the same. It was going so strong, so good. But then things started to stand out. Little things that annoyed me. Nothing major just certain wordings for example "eating lunch" but how is she exactly doing this??
