Desire by Design by Paula Altenburg

Image
Desire by Design by Paula Altenburg My rating: 4 of 5 stars *ARC copy from publisher, Entangled Publishing.* 4.5 Stars Expected publication: May 13th 2013 Eve is the project manager for the new city hall, she has worked hard to get where she is. Harder then most being a female in the field without a proper degree. Hoping to get her name out there she is also the designer of the final draft. Or at least she had planed and hoped she would be until Matt Brison enters the scene. Matt, an internationally known architect has been asked by his uncle the major if would come and work on the design plans for the new city hall, hoping he would modernize the building and move Halifax in a more forward direction. Not knowing what he was getting himself into when he agreed to do so, a feisty, spirited "bully" with "hot chocolate" eyes was definitely not it. He definitely hadn't thought he would be remotely attracted to her, she is nothing at all what he typically ...

The Claiming Words by Tricia Drammeh

Image
The Claiming Words by Tricia Drammeh My rating: 2 of 5 stars *Warning slight spoilers* First of all I would like to say thank you to Tricia Drammeh for this copy of The Claiming Words , given in exchange for an honest review. There is potential for this book, people will like it, but sad to say I was not one of them. Don't get me wrong I didn't hate it, there are parts I didn't mind, I like Bryce, I like Alisa. The Claiming Words is told from the point of view of two characters, Rachel and Alisa. When reading the two it felt like I was reading two different pieces of work. The Alisa chapters being enjoyable, with some amusing moments. But then when it came time for the Rachel ones there seemed to a switch. If felt different. I actually found myself wanting to flick faster through them to get them over with. Which I found rather funny as so much of the main story line revolves around her. I don't know if it's because I found her character to be boring an...

A Tale of Red Riding: Rise Of The Werewolf Huntress by Neo Edmund

Image
A Tale of Red Riding: Rise Of The Werewolf Huntress by Neo Edmund My rating: 4 of 5 stars Owoooooooo! Who's that I see walkin' in these woods? Why, it's Little Red Riding Hood. Hey there Little Red Riding Hood, You sure are looking good. You're everything a big bad wolf could want. Listen to me. When I first settled down to read this book, Little Red Riding Hood by Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs, popped into my head. When you read the title and blurb you get an image in your head of what you think the tale is going to be about, now take that idea and remove it from your head. Expect the unexpected. What I thought this was going to be and what I read where two different things, and well that's not a bad thing. This could have went two ways, a flop because you have to be careful when working with something that is based on the fairytale or anything that's already in the public mind. Or it can be fantastic and different. It was the latter. We have Red (...

Immortal Prophecy (The Immortal Prophecy Saga #1) by Samantha Adams

Image
Immortal Prophecy by Samantha Adams My rating: 3 of 5 stars *Given a copy for an honest review* 3.5 Stars Ally is the so called "prophecy girl", half immortal half human (which at first she doesn't know). The story opens 5 years in the past, Ally and her best friend Kat are going to see a fortune teller. She is told that she will have two men in her life, one James an immortal, her soul mate and protector and the other Vincent who is determent to kill her. Because she is suppose to be the one to stop him. She is also told she will know when it is all to start when two people in her life dies. The next day, it has begun. Immortals are beings that are here to protect humans from evil, the evil being vampires. Ally is meant rise up and lead them and defeat Vincent. I enjoyed the story, there is much potential for this series. Original ideas mixed with some things I've seen in other books, soul mate bond, eye change in lust etc. But it's pnr/uf so it's to be e...

I Kissed a Dog (Werewolves of the West, #1) by Carol Van Atta

Image
I Kissed a Dog by Carol Van Atta My rating: 4 of 5 stars Chloe Carpenter has a unique ability she can communicate with animals, not in words so much, but she can read the thoughts as a series of images. An ability that she doesn't really know the full extent off. Until one day she hears the thoughts of the very sexy, yet annoying (to her) newest co-worker. Dr. Zane Marshall is new to Plum City Wildlife Park who has his special ability, other then being the rescuer of Chloe, he is a werewolf. He's been sent there to check out the murders that have been taking place to young males between the ages 18 and 35. Thinking someone who he knows, but someone he doesn't want anything to do with, is the reason behind them all. There is so much promise for this series, but I won't lie there were parts that irked me. A little slow starting but once you get into it, it is very gripping with a nice little twist and a 'Wow I never saw that coming!' moment. The ending in parti...

Sunny Days for Sam by Jennifer Shirk

Image
Sunny Days for Sam by Jennifer Shirk My rating: 4 of 5 stars Sam, is a single father. His children, Emma and Cole, are his world even if doesn't always put them first. A busy man who has a business to run. Wanting to spend more time with his kids decides to take them to the coast for the summer. He doesn't trust easily, he's been used many times before and thinks that everyone is out for themselves, wanting what he can do for them and not him for himself. Sunny, as cheerful and sweet as her name suggests, will take any job she can to get by and pay off her debt, as well to save to go back to college. After her grandmother got sick, she left school to devote all her time and energy taking care of the one person who was both a mother and father to her. After her death she was left with a huge debt. She doesn't believe in asking for help, even though at a drop of hat she would go out of her way to help others. Still a believer in fairy tales and happily ever after. I fo...

Forever and Always by Jennifer McNare

Image
Forever and Always by Jennifer McNare My rating: 3 of 5 stars I was given this book by the author for review. Rating: 3.5 My feelings about this book are mixed. On one hand I enjoyed the story. But then on the other I was annoyed with it. Nicholas, for lack of a better word, is a jerk. Who is stuck in the past, I understand he hasn't had the best experiences with females, his mother leaving them, his former fiancee cheating and having most women just throw themselves at him in the hopes of becoming the next Duchess of Sethe. But past experiences aside it doesn't excuse his actions. He is quick to temper without asking or thinking. Ashleigh St. John, is a reckless spitfire who is very forgiving, but I feel too forgiving. As I was glaring at Nicholas I couldn't help but think, oh Ashleigh don't be a fool, stop forgiving him. Out of all the characters, the ones I enjoyed the most who be ones were in it the least, Brendan and Alex. I would have liked to read more of them...
