Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson My rating: 5 of 5 stars Reading this book was like stepping back into high school for me. The girl who was looked at as the freak, the girl who was told she was no fun and was told she was depressed, and depressing and that she needed help. I could have wrote this book, I lived so much of it, except I never took art class, I had creative writing, poetry was my drug of choice when it came to outlets. When you have been in abused/raped/hurt in anyway physical or mental, the hardest thing to do is speak up. Silence at first becomes your friend, your only friend but in the end that same silence can turn in to your enemy, because in the end you only get hurt more with the thoughts you have tormenting you. Wanting to scream but drowning in your words that won't come out. I think everyone should read this novel...no mater what stereotypical roll you fell into in high school. I think everyone should read this book...no mater what your experiences ...

Onyx (Lux, #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout My rating: 4 of 5 stars Hello Daemon, I forgot how much I enjoyed you. XD To some this could be spoilerish? Ok so it had been a few years since I read the first book in this series, so I had to back track a little just to refresh my memory. But after a little Lux 101 I was on the path to enjoyment and mixture of other emotions. Swooning, and smiling. Rage and eye-rolling. I knew there was something fishy going on with certain characters, it was to obvious for them (Will and Blake). Not to go into to detail but they came across as too perfect if you know what I mean. I am sooo grateful I'm not reading this when the books were originally released as I'd be on edge waiting for the next book. But lucky for me book 3 is awaiting me. :) View all my reviews

Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese

Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars I love it when a book makes you feel and makes you think. It's not just words on the page for ones entertainment or escape. This is a book that for me opened my eyes. When I think Canada, racism/segregation they would never come to mind. It's something that isn't thought or talked about. Unlike slavery in the United States. But it's a real issue that affects people still. Colonialism stripped the indigenous people of their land, their identity and beliefs. Trying to instill the European white man's ways. It is something that was still happening, residential schools still being open as late as the 1990s. For Saul, our main character he is trying to come to terms with all that has happened to him, the story opens up and he is at an AA meeting and telling stories of his life. Except he can't bring himself to speak the words, so he writes them instead. The good, the not so good and the dark tim...

Review+ Book Tour: Floor 21 by Jason Luthor

FLOOR 21 by Jason Luthor My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars *Disclaimer: I received an e-copy of this book for review as a part of YA Bound Book Tours* You know sometimes how you sit and wonder about the world and how it came to be? Now imagine, growing up inside a tower, yes a freaking tower, mind you a rather big tower, and not knowing how or why you've ended up living there. What happened to the world, who made the tower, are there other humans out living in other towers? Our main character is a 17 year old girl named Jackie, she thinks these things all the time, yet she is not allowed to question anything, in fact technically it is a crime to think any thoughts that could go against the towers authority. If you are caught doing so, you go in to reinforcement, which is something no one wants to go through, because the you that comes out is not the same as the one that went in. Life in this tower is not fair, as most dictatorships are not. Each floor getting less and less...
