⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This was bloody fantastic. That's it that's the review.
Memories of Blood and Shadow checked off so many boxes for me and had me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole of the book.
It opens up with our main character, Tavar Farwan in his home still battling the memories of his youth. He has been living out the rest of his life for sometime it seems and is still haunted by the death and blood shed.
Then there's a knock at the door, two men seeking shelter for the night, a guise. For we learn it is vengeance in which they are really after.
Tavar, though older than he once was is still as spry as any youth. Yes it is vengeance they seek but they are in for a whole lot more.
I LOVE stories that tell a story, the person telling their tale and we travel back in time as if we are there and the one living it. We see Tavar as a small child with his family and the all the destruction that follows his life. We see the blood shed, the friendships and the betrayal. We watch the mistakes he makes and the lessons he learned.
This story is grim with heart and humor. It has a wonderful cast of characters that are loyal. It has lots of blood, like I said in the reviews opening, this book is bloody fantastic.
Soo many twists and turns and I saw none of them coming, that right there my friends is a good writer.
It also held my attention at a time that I didn't think it would, my stepmom has just passed away and I wasn't sure if anything was going to distract my mind for just a little while but it did and for that you know this is a good book. Because it's hard to do other things when you are dealing with grief.
I think this might have been the perfect book too be reading because there is a quote which I will share that has actually helped me, I think more then the author even thought it would help others when he wrote it.
"They don't go away. They live on in you. Every time you close your eyes or have a moment of silence to yourself. It's like you are never alone. They're watching you, always watching, making sure that their loss wasn't for nothing. Only thing we can do is keep living. And make sure we live a life worth dying for."
Throughout the book I have many tabs of moments that stood out to me, wonderfully pennd lines that made me stop and think.
Aaron S. Jones is an incredible storyteller, his characters come to life on the pages and his world building can take you from tbe chair you are sitting in, into the world you reading about. His ability to make you smile and laugh then stab you in a blink is very impressive.
There is this one particular battle scene that had me cheering
This is the second book of his that I have read. This is the second book of his that I have given 5 stars. Aaron S. Jones is quickly becoming a favourite author. I eagerly await the next book.
