Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn

Image
Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn My rating: 2 of 5 stars So I kind of expected something more you know with all the hype about this authors books, I was left rather disappointed. It could just be that Sharp Objects is the lesser of Gillian Flynn 's books but I can not really make that call as I have yet to read anything else by her, I should also keep in mind that this was also her debut novel. I do know however that this book has been highly rated by many people on GR. So I am probably in the minority when I say it was kinda meh. I found Sharp Objects to be disturbing but not in a good way. Not in a way that it engrossed me, luring me back to find out what will happen next. In fact I started and finished an entirely different book while reading this one. The characters where unlikable, the plot left little to be desired and we'll I kind of figured out who did it early on. Mind you I will give the author props that she did lead me away from my original thoughts at one ...

Old Bear by Kevin Henkes

Old Bear by Kevin Henkes My rating: 4 of 5 stars I absolutely loved the artwork in this book. As bear dreams about going through the seasons we are presented with wonderful scenes. Both the fall and the winter appealed to me the most. The cover it's self under the sleeve was also lovely. View all my reviews

Skinned by Robin Wasserman

Image
Skinned by Robin Wasserman My rating: 3 of 5 stars May contain spoilers, cursing and ranting. When something bad happens to you, like an accident as what happened in this book to our main. It doesn't always mean death. If your brain is still working you can be downloaded into a new body. Some people if they have enough credit can have one specialty made if there is enough time for it. But the thing is you are no longer human. You can't bleed, eat, breath. You can feel pain to a degree only with extreme actions. Hot and cold mean nothing. You can feel slightly but it's not the same. You don't need to bathe, brush your teeth or use the bathroom. You're a machine that looks human and mentally you still are the same person but it's never the same. It was going so strong, so good. But then things started to stand out. Little things that annoyed me. Nothing major just certain wordings for example "eating lunch" but how is she exactly doing this?? ...

The Hundredth Man by Jack Kerley

Image
The Hundredth Man by Jack Kerley My rating: 4 of 5 stars Detective Carson Ryder deals mostly with cases that involve those who are mentally unstable. The psychopaths, the insane. Little is it know he has his own secrets to hide. When I first started this book I was drawn into the storyline but not so much the storytelling. I felt as if there was some pile up of extra stuff that took away from the story itself. But still I could not stop reading it getting more drawn into the book as I continued turning the pages. Looking forward to the next book in the series. View all my reviews

When I Went to the Library: Writers Celebrate Books and Reading by Debora Pearson

Image
When I Went to the Library: Writers Celebrate Books and Reading by Debora Pearson My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars What a wonderful collection of short stores. All focusing on libraries or the love of reading, the written word and books. I found some to be touching and inspiring, others funny and joyous; While others saddened me. I decided to leave the introduction for last and I am glad I did so. I connected so much with the words spoken and I read them with pride. Michele Landsberg , took the thoughts and feeling that I have for the library and wrote one the best introductions I have had the pleasure of reading in quite sometime. You do not need to be a child to enjoy this collection, any age will find something in these stories. 4.5 View all my reviews

Alphas by Lisi Harrison

Image
Alphas by Lisi Harrison My rating: 3 of 5 stars I like books that take place in a boarding school, which is why I checked out this one. I found most of the characters annoying. The writing was roll my eyes worthy at times yet despite it all I didn't mind the story and will continue on with the series at some point. View all my reviews

Drizzled With Death by Jessie Crockett

Drizzled with Death by Jessie Crockett My rating: 1 of 5 stars Blarg it should not have taken me this long to finish this book. Just could not get into it. It was boring. But it's over now. Felt like there was too much going on but nothing happening all at the same time if that makes any sense. View all my reviews
