Phobic by Cortney Pearson (The Forbidden Doors #1) Publication date: September 8th 2014 Genres: Horror, Young Adult Synopsis: Fifteen-year-old Piper Crenshaw knows her house is strange. It’s never needed repairs since it was built in the 1800s, and the lights flicker in response to things she says. As if those things aren’t creepy enough, it’s also the place where her mother committed murder. To prove she’s not afraid of where she lives, Piper opens a forbidden door, which hides a staircase that leads to the ceiling. That’s when the flashbacks of the original residents from 1875 start, including a love affair between two young servants. Each vision pulls Piper deeper into not only their story, but also her house. Piper confides in her best friend, Todd, whom she’s gradually falling for, but even he doesn’t believe her. At least, not until her house gets axed during a prank, and the act injures Piper instead, cutting a gash the size of Texas into her sto...

ARC Review: Brew by David Estes

Image
Brew by David Estes My rating: 4 of 5 stars Series: Salem's Revenge Source: eARC for review Read: September 2014 Expected publication:  October 1st, 2014 Publisher: Self Published. *I recieved this eARC for review* Do you believe is witches? Some of you will say yeah sure. But I bet the most of you will say, nope. Because they are just found in books, tv, and movies. All made up for your entertainment. Sure some people call themselves one but they can't really be real. Right?? That's what Rhett Carter thought too. Rhett I can't say was a typical teenager. He played football, a book blogger, was picked on and had been through the system a few times. Finally living with a foster family he liked, The Smiths. He had a best friend and a girlfriend, the three of them were always together. Until the attack happened, and now Rhett the football playing book blogger is on a hunt. I have to point this out as it was something I found really cute, I don't kn...

Princess Posey and the First Grade Parade: Book 1 by Stephanie Greene My rating: 5 of 5 stars Source: Library book Read: September 2014 Publisher: Puffin Posey is starting grade one and she doesn't like the idea of not having her mommy all day or having to be dropped off and left alone. She wishes she could wear her favorite outfit, a pink tutu that even though it as a hole in it and is torn makes her feel like a princess, Princess Posey. The boys next door are of no help, they try to convince her that there are monsters at school who like to get the first graders. Princess Posey is a cute and quick chapter book great for teaching your little ones that its going to be okay in school, especially for your first time in full day school and having to be not with their parents. Its a big step up and change from Kindergarten. This book helps explain that even though it maybe new and a change, it doesn't mean it's for the worse and who knows you just might like it. I l...

Book Review: Empath (Flawed, #1) by Becca J. Campbell

Image
Empath by Becca J. Campbell My rating: 4 of 5 stars I was given an ecopy of Empath for review. Jade is an Empath not only can she sense the feelings and emotions of those around her she can feel them. They can take right over if she isn't too careful, which is why she has lived such a sheltered life. Which makes it strange when she does start to make friends, calming ones at that. And these friends maybe just as "flawed" as her. This book was rather interesting and well intense at times. We have this person, Ethan who is a monster, a psychopath. His passion is the fears of others, he thrives off it it, gets off from it. He is just a sick person and Jade is in his sights. I was got sucked into this book, I found the concept to be refreshing. I've been reading more dystopia novels as of late so it was a nice little break from them. I'll be looking forward to the next book in the series. View all my reviews

About the book:  Penelope lives in a world of advanced technology but many claim society has yet to catch up. Marionettes have advanced in the form of robots; lifelike creations remote controlled to perform super human tasks. When Penelope makes a deal with Jed, a marionette-obsessed scientist, she doesn’t fully realize what she’s getting herself into. In order for Jed to take her away from the orphanage she lives in, she must first agree to undergo his experiments and tests, ultimately creating something no one ever dreamed possible; the first living marionette. As Jed shows off his scientific creation to the world, concerns arise surrounding Penelope’s abilities and what she’s capable of doing. Ordered to somehow lessen her abilities, Jed makes a desperate attempt to change Penelope to make her more human, more vulnerable. After Penelope lies to the officials about her past, Jed makes sure it’s the last one she’ll ever utter. The truth is now the only thing she is capable ...
