Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins

Image
Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins My rating: 4 of 5 stars This book was like Harry Potter meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer, well minus the vampire slaying. It's the wit of the characters that give me a Joss Whedon feel (which is fantabulus thing because I bow down to him for his my god). Life for Sophie has never been easy or normal. Raised by her human mother, never knowing her father who is a warlock by the way, has lived in more states then you can shake a stick at. Finally after the love spell gone crazy she's been sent to Hex Hall, a reform school for witches, shifters, and fairies. And if she thinks her life wasn't normal before things are just going to get more and more abnormal. And anything but easy. I really liked this book, a lot of twists that I never saw coming. Some mystery, a little bit of romance or more so heavy crushing. A lot of unanswered questions, but good unanswered questions. Because it has me on the edge of my chair now as I wait to read the next b...

Escape Theory by Margaux Froley My rating: 3 of 5 stars ~Warning spoilers ahead~ And it all started with And Devons need for milk, because you can't eat Nutter Butter cookies with out it. Devon and Hutch had a special connection, even if they really weren't friends, meaning they never had a friendship that was known. They had one night together back in freshman year, but all it took was night to form a bonding. They understood each other and when he commits suicide, a drug overdose, two years later she can't believe it. Hutch was Keaton school's legacy student, the golden boy coming from a very well to do family. Devon, is there on scholarship. A scholarship to a school she never really asked to go to. In her junior year she gets involved with the schools newly added peer counseling program, hoping to pad her application to Stanford. Her first sessions are counseling those closest to Hutch. She came to find a side of him that she never new about, and how b...

Golden by Jessi Kirby

Golden by Jessi Kirby My rating: 4 of 5 stars A wonderful story about self discovery. Beautiful Inspirational Parker Frost, a high school senior, always thought she knew what she wanted in life, she had a plan. Study hard, work hard, go to Stanford and become a doctor. Everything she did was to reach her goal, never once waking off the path laid out before her, never once taking chances. Until she stumbles across the journal of Julianna Farnetti, who will forever be remembered with her boyfriend, Shane Cruz, as the towns golden couple. Forever in love, a perfect couple who's lives where tragically cut short. It is the words written 10 years ago and the choices made by others that make Parker open her eyes to what life is all about.   Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life? The choices we make and the risks we take or don't take define how the rest of our lives play out. Sometimes you need to take that step, take that chance, no ...

Outside In (Insider, #2) by Maria V. Snyder

Image
Outside In by Maria V. Snyder My rating: 4 of 5 stars A little slow starting for me, but I think that was just because the first bit was talking about the events of Inside Out . Which to someone who hadn't read the first book recently that would be fine, but as I had only finished that book not that long ago it made the story creep along. I just wanted to get into the action of it. And when the action did start I was engrossed in it. I was left just as confused as Trell, I didn't know who was telling the truth and who wasn't. I am interested to find out if there is a third book in the works for this series. View all my reviews

Inside Out (Insider, #1) by Maria V. Snyder

Inside Out by Maria V. Snyder My rating: 4 of 5 stars 4 1/2 stars. I haven't really read many dystopian novels, so this was a nice change for me. When I had first started I was unsure if I was going to like it but as I got further into it I hooked. Trella, the "Queen of the Pipes" as her fellow srubs call her, did not believe that there was something else, something/place better, the gateway as they call it. In her mission to prove it's non-existence or even existence, meets Riley, an upper, and discovers that what she has always believed isn't what it seems. Still some stones uncovered, really looking forward to reading the next book. Definitely a book I can see me re-reading, need to pick up physical copy. View all my reviews
