Speak Easy (Speak Easy, #1) by Melanie Harlow

Image
Speak Easy by Melanie Harlow My rating: 4 of 5 stars I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review. Tiny wants more out of life, she works for her father bootlegging whiskey from Canada, and has to take care of her younger sisters. Something she's been doing ever since her mother passed away. She wants more, she wants to be a nurse and is saving up all her money for school. She's strong willed and isn't afraid to butt heads. She's the kind of leading lady that I enjoy. Enzo is sexy as they come and just as dangerous. He's a gangster and the son of a powerful mob boss. The same gang that is messing with Tiny's father. She knows that she shouldn't feel the attraction to him but sometimes you want what you can't have or what you know you shouldn't have. Joey has been a friend of the O'Mara family since childhood, he's grown up a lot since Tiny had seen him last and never did she think she would catch herself thinking about him in...

Where Wildflowers Bloom by Ann Shorey

Image
Where Wildflowers Bloom by Ann Shorey My rating: 3 of 5 stars Where the Wildflowers Bloom was actually a very enjoyable read. I know that sounds as if I was doubting it would be, well to be honest I was going into it kind of unsure as to how much I would like it. I've had some not so happy experiences with some of the last few Christian Fiction novels I've read. All Faith Lindberg has left in the world is her Grandpa and his store,  which he has left her in charge of. And memories, painful memories that are around every corner of Noble Springs. She has lost both her father and brother in the war, her mother having died when Faith was but a young girl. Which is why she can not wait to get the store sold so they can make the move west to Oregon. But things do not go as planed for Faith when she discovers the business isn't as successful has she was led to believe. In attempt to turn things around, many things take place to knock her back down. I liked it, it was ni...

Before the Season Ends by Linore Rose Burkard

Image
Before the Season Ends by Linore Rose Burkard My rating: 2 of 5 stars *Waring Spoilers Ahead* Before the Season Ends was an enjoyable read and it got much better as it went on but then it well, went downhill and made me mad . I stayed up into the wee hours finishing this book, slept on it and now that I am awake again, I am still disappointed. This book held my attention and interest for so long and then I wanted to yell at it. Ariana is sent to stay in London with her Aunt, for the season. Her Aunt being overly wealthy is a childless widow who wants to present her niece to society. This will benefit the three parties involved, her aunt's invitations are not as plentiful as they used to be, this will get her invited to more of the Tons events. Ariana will be able to intermingle with the best of society, perhaps find a husband and see some of the sites of London she has hoped to visit. For her parents they want to remove her from the ageing rector that has set his sigh...

Image
Loving Liza Jane by Sharlene MacLaren My rating: 3 of 5 stars Liza is the new teacher for Little Hickman, the fourth one in four years. Each one being made to leave due to the actions of some of the students. She doesn't have fear because she is confident that she will succeed where the others hadn't. There are some rules of etiquette Liza must follow, one of those are no contact with the opposite sex. Ben is a widow, with two small children to look after. He is in need of a wife to take care of these young children of his so he can tend to his fields and other work. When he sees an advertising for mail order brides he wonders if this is something he should go for. But would he be able to marry some he doesn't even know or met? And does he want to now that the pretty new school teacher has caught his eye? This story has much more between the pages then the blurb lets up. The banter between Liza and Ben is great, he is rather a charming fellow. I'm looking forwa...

The Lady of Bolton Hill by Elizabeth Camden

Image
The Lady of Bolton Hill by Elizabeth Camden My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars Daniel and Clara have been best friends since they were children, both coming from different backgrounds but brought together from a mutual love of Chopin. Always playing music together, known pieces and scoring their own, something other then friendship started to bloom. Even if it was not noticed between the two. Clara was to be sent to London to live with her Aunt. Under the guise of her pursuing her dream of writing, not realizing her father was purposely keeping her from the budding romance he could see happening even if she never. After a lifetime away in London, Clara returns home to Baltimore a journalist, a rarity for females, wondering what happened to Daniel after all these years. Was he still the same boy, even though now a grown man, that she used to know? For the first half of this book I was thinking this will be a four star book. I was enjoying the story and the characters, I loved Daniel. ...

The Affectionate Adversary (Miss Pickworth Series #1) by Catherine Palmer

Image
The Affectionate Adversary by Catherine   Palmer My rating: 1 of 5 stars Am I ever glad to be done. I actually thought about DNFING it. At one point I was going to post this: and say so long, then I noticed I had less the hundred pages left and said, fine I'll finish it I've already spent my night reading it and it's getting too late to start something new, might as well not have my book reading night be a total loss. I could not stand these characters. Sarah is too stubborn and set, I wanted to say enough already. Charles, I just wanted to shake and say just walk way, please you fool. The sisters *cringe* I know they are members of society and well they are "above" people, but these people were very snob like. There were to many things that I found annoying, I enjoy Christian romance/fiction but this book was just coming on too strong for me, too in your face. I won't be recommending this book. I didn't enjoy this book someone might and I see ...

Deciding to check out the brothel with his friend he is transfixed on a hidden beauty with red hair. Upon purchasing her for the night things don't go as he had hoped. While Duncan, a rake who is smitten and is trying to win his way into Katarinas heart, and bed. View all my reviews

An Infamous Marriage by Susanna Fraser

Image
An Infamous Marriage by Susanna Fraser My rating: 4 of 5 stars *Warning slightly spolierish* A deathbed promise to his best friend, Jack finds himself with a wife. A wife that he really doesn't want. To him she is no beauty and rather plan actually. He has no desire to be tied down, and has no plans to change how he lives and acts. Elizabeth doesn't want to be married to Jack, she wants to be mourning Giles, her late husband. Who made both her and Jack promise that they would be wed once he is gone. He wanted her to be looked after and Jack being his best friend was the only one he thought to be best one to do so. Sadly for Elizabeth there was no time for her to mourn his passing as Jack being a solider in the British army is bound for Canada. After five years there is peace and Jack is coming home to Elizabeth a wife he has only known through letters, letters that has time passed by seemed to grow colder and more distant. What he sees when he arrives is not at all th...

A Lady of High Regard (Ladies of Liberty, #1) by Tracie Peterson

Image
A Lady of High Regard by Tracie Peterson My rating: 4 of 5 stars A lady of High Regard takes place in 1852 Philadelphia, it deals with areas that a lady of higher standing shouldn't be sticking her nose into. Because after all it isn't proper for women to get involved in such matters of oppression and poverty. She is to be home having tea parties with her friends and gossiping about the latest fashions from Paris. Mai lives a comfortable life, and hadn't realized that in her own town just a few blocks from her home down on the docks, people are living in poverty, barely getting by. Women are left alone to raise a handful of children while the husband has either passed on or are away working on the boats. They can not afford to pay the rent collector, feed their children and pay off their husbands debt. So they are forced to pay in other ways, the men force themselves and make them pay with their bodies or take away a child to sell in labor to pay it off. Through ...

Never Too Late by Amara Royce

Image
Never Too Late by Amara Royce My rating: 4 of 5 stars **I would like to thank Kensington Books for providing me with an arc of Never Too Late , via NetGalley** Lord Devin has been given the job of investigating Honoria Duchamp and the controversial pamphlets she's been printing. Honoria is a widow and the owner of Evans Books, she has also has gotten the attention of those who would like to see these printings come to and end. Upon being given the assignment, Honoria Duchamp was not at all what Lord Devin expected. She is not at all the bookish matron he envisioned, but a smart and beautiful woman. Now there is more then just her pamphlets he would like to investigate. I found myself rather taken with both Honoria and Lord Devin. Honoria is a smart older heroine, independent and a lover of books. Lord Devin, slightly cocky used to getting what he wants. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this Never Too Late although I do however have some issues. Things get mentioned but nothing com...

Image
The Secret by Julie Garwood My rating: 5 of 5 stars **5 amazingly wonderful stars out of 5** I knew from the very first line, that I was going to treasure this book. There are many books that I have loved and cherished, and have put on to my favorites list. But then everyone once and awhile a you stumble up on a book that you want to hug into yourself, this was one of those for me. This was my first Julie Garwood book and I don't think I could have started with a better one. I am looking forward to many more adventures with her. View all my reviews

Forever and Always by Jennifer McNare

Image
Forever and Always by Jennifer McNare My rating: 3 of 5 stars I was given this book by the author for review. Rating: 3.5 My feelings about this book are mixed. On one hand I enjoyed the story. But then on the other I was annoyed with it. Nicholas, for lack of a better word, is a jerk. Who is stuck in the past, I understand he hasn't had the best experiences with females, his mother leaving them, his former fiancee cheating and having most women just throw themselves at him in the hopes of becoming the next Duchess of Sethe. But past experiences aside it doesn't excuse his actions. He is quick to temper without asking or thinking. Ashleigh St. John, is a reckless spitfire who is very forgiving, but I feel too forgiving. As I was glaring at Nicholas I couldn't help but think, oh Ashleigh don't be a fool, stop forgiving him. Out of all the characters, the ones I enjoyed the most who be ones were in it the least, Brendan and Alex. I would have liked to read more of them...

The Abduction of Julia (Rogues, #1) by Karen Hawkins

Image
The Abduction of Julia by Karen Hawkins My rating: 5 of 5 stars I knew this was going to be a 5 star book before I had hit the halfway mark. In fact if I could I would give it a few more. I completely adored Julia, and Aunt Maddie, she was a hoot. Fantastic, fantastic book. View all my reviews

Oh, Cherry Ripe by Claudy Conn

Image
Oh, Cherry Ripe by Claudy Conn My rating: 4 of 5 stars I rather enjoyed this story. Cherry is a strong spirited heroine, I loved the banter and playfulness between both her and Sky. I will admit some things had me laughing when I'm not particularly sure they where meant too. View all my reviews

The Raven Prince (Princes Trilogy #1) by Elizabeth Hoyt

Image
The Raven Prince by Elizabeth Hoyt My rating: 5 of 5 stars 4 1/2 stars. This was my first Elizabeth Hoyt and won't be my last. Over all this book was very funny, and very very hot. I was going to say steamy but that would just be an understatement. Blush factor very high. I enjoyed Anna, she was very witty and fun. I found there little game of pass the book to be rather cute. I was however taken back a little by how vulgar some of the conversations/thoughts were, just because it's not what I'm used to reading in historical romances. Not saying that it was a bad thing just took me off guard. View all my reviews

Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon

Image
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon My rating: 4 of 5 stars I enjoyed the story but I found it to be a tad too long. I would have been perfectly happy to see the story end a little sooner then it did. Will I read the others? Not really sure, as I'm happy to see it as a stand alone. View all my reviews

Mine Till Midnight (The Hathaways, #1) by Lisa Kleypas

Image
Mine Till Midnight by Lisa Kleypas My rating: 5 of 5 stars This was a first time read for this author for me, an no way will it be a last. This book was fantastic, although frustrating at times. I wanted to yell at Amelia and tell her to just say yes gosh darn it. I did adore her though, her character was great. Christopher is a bastard who every time he appeared I hoped he would fall in a well. I really liked Cam, he was very mysterious. And I can't wait to find out more about him and what the connection is between him and Merripen. I know nothing of the next book but I do hope it continues where this one leaves off with Amelia and Cam. View all my reviews
