Mad Dog & Englishman: A Mad Dog & Englishman Mystery by J.M. Hayes

Image
Mad Dog & Englishman: A Mad Dog & Englishman Mystery by J.M. Hayes My rating: 2 of 5 stars *Warning my review may spoil you* Nothing ever happens in Benteen County, Kansas. It's a small town where everyone knows each others business. So when the reverend turns up being murdered it's a little bit of a shock to sheriff English. A whirlwind things and information happens afterwords. From more deaths, a kidnapping, a history of sexual molestation coming out, hidden and mistaken identities, and more. Mixed thoughts when it comes to this book. It was an okay read nothing spectacular, at least for me. Kind of just left me feeling kind of meh. View all my reviews

Close Liaisons (The Krinar Chronicles, #1) by Anna Zaires

Image
Close Liaisons by Anna Zaires My rating: 4 of 5 stars *Warning spoilers below* 3.5 to 4 stars! An interesting story about a race of aliens, the Krinar, who have come to Earth. They are compared to vampires but without the pointed fangs. They do drink blood, but doing so during sex, as they have something in their saliva that enhances the act as if the person bitten where on ecstasy when mixing into the bloodstream. The main diet of the Krinar is actually vegetation. They do not eat meat and in fact have band it from human consumption. An organization known as the Resistance, would like to liberate the  Earth from the Krinar rule. Even though they have not come to take over and harm the human race, doing things that really are saving the planet from the destructive ways of humanity as well has trying to save the human race from themselves. Mia,a collage student in NYC, is still a virgin who hasn't really been dating much. She just happens to get the attention of Korum,

The Claiming Words by Tricia Drammeh

The Claiming Words by Tricia Drammeh My rating: 2 of 5 stars *Warning slight spoilers* First of all I would like to say thank you to Tricia Drammeh for this copy of The Claiming Words , given in exchange for an honest review. There is potential for this book, people will like it, but sad to say I was not one of them. Don't get me wrong I didn't hate it, there are parts I didn't mind, I like Bryce, I like Alisa. The Claiming Words is told from the point of view of two characters, Rachel and Alisa. When reading the two it felt like I was reading two different pieces of work. The Alisa chapters being enjoyable, with some amusing moments. But then when it came time for the Rachel ones there seemed to a switch. If felt different. I actually found myself wanting to flick faster through them to get them over with. Which I found rather funny as so much of the main story line revolves around her. I don't know if it's because I found her character to be boring an

Alex by Adam J. Nicolai

Image
Alex by Adam J. Nicolai My rating: 4 of 5 stars *Warning slight spoilers* This was a emotionally hard book for me. I don't do well with books that involve children being hurt or dying. I still read them even if I know I'll have an ache in my heart. Ian has lost his child, his wife has moved out, his work is suffering and now it seems he is on the verge of losing his mind. Or is he?? His son was kidnapped and murdered, and while it seems like the world can pick up the pieces and try to move forward Ian can't, not yet. Ian has a battle going on in his head, one side is telling him, he is crazy and that it is just his grief projecting Alex around. The little bits of conversations being ones that had taken place when he was alive. Then there is that other side that arguing what if he really is there? What if Alex is coming back for a reason? And if so what for? Wow what a book. Are we seeing the mental breakdown of a man? or Are we witnessing a soul who ca

Never Too Far (Too Far, #2) by Abbi Glines

Image
Never Too Far by Abbi Glines My rating: 4 of 5 stars Read on April 23, 2013 Never Too Far picks up just shortly after Fallen Too Far has left off. And I am so glad I waited to read them closer together. BUT NOW I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL LATE SUMMER FOR BOOK 3!!! Like the last book this one was just as frustrating and just as fantastic. A little more serious, a little more grown up. More secrets, more lies. So many times I thought "please don't be stupid, please don't fuck this up". I want to say a few things about the side characters. Bethy, has turned out to be a great friend for Blaire and I'm really happy  how things have turned out good for her. I hope to see more of her in future books. In Fallen Too Far I liked Grant, I thought he was really sweet he was the nice guy to Rush's bad boy image. I liked him more then I liked Woods, this time around I found it the opposite. I still think Grant is great, I was just happy to see a certain side of

Quite Contrary by Richard Roberts

Image
Quite Contrary by Richard Roberts My rating: 4 of 5 stars *Warning the following review contains spoilers, proceed with caution* Mary, Mary, quite contrary, How does your garden grow? With silver bells, and cockle shells, And pretty maids all in a row. Once upon a time, there was a little girl who was not sweet.... Mary Stuart, is twelve years old, she is quite contrary, she is not a very likable child, her attitude is horrid. Quite Contrary starts out with Mary going to a Halloween party in an old abandoned house. It is there that the hostess shows her party goers a crawl space she had discovered. And it is Mary's venture into said crawl space that we get to journey into this bizarrely dark and twisted tale. On her way through the crawl space she meets a rat, a rat who can speak. His name is Rat-in-boots even though he doesn't own any boots. At the end of the crawl space they end up in some kind of industrial part of town, Mary get's covered in some kind

At Grave's End (Night Huntress, #3) by Jeaniene Frost

Image
At Grave's End by Jeaniene Frost My rating: 5 of 5 stars Another fantastic book in ever growing fantastic series. Spike ;) I mean Bones is just as perfect as ever. James Marsters is MY Bones. I could gush about   Jeaniene Frost s Night Huntress books. They just get better and better. At Grave's End delivers as promised, it is intense, action packed. HOT! Humor filled, and heartbreaking.  It didn't disappoint. We get to meet some great and not so great figures of importance. (view spoiler) [Good ol' Drac himself, just don't call him that. ;) (hide spoiler) ] . I DO have some issues with some characters, or rather character, Tate. I'm over his "feelings" for Cat, dude needs to realize she is happy with Bones and time to move on. Yeah I know it's not going to be easy watching someone you love happy and in love with some else, especially when that someone else is someone hate. But it is what it is and Tate needs to find a nice girl all

An Infamous Marriage by Susanna Fraser

Image
An Infamous Marriage by Susanna Fraser My rating: 4 of 5 stars *Warning slightly spolierish* A deathbed promise to his best friend, Jack finds himself with a wife. A wife that he really doesn't want. To him she is no beauty and rather plan actually. He has no desire to be tied down, and has no plans to change how he lives and acts. Elizabeth doesn't want to be married to Jack, she wants to be mourning Giles, her late husband. Who made both her and Jack promise that they would be wed once he is gone. He wanted her to be looked after and Jack being his best friend was the only one he thought to be best one to do so. Sadly for Elizabeth there was no time for her to mourn his passing as Jack being a solider in the British army is bound for Canada. After five years there is peace and Jack is coming home to Elizabeth a wife he has only known through letters, letters that has time passed by seemed to grow colder and more distant. What he sees when he arrives is not at all th

A Spoonful of Sugar: A Nanny's Story by Brenda Ashford

Image
A Spoonful of Sugar: A Nanny's Story by Brenda Ashford My rating: 5 of 5 stars From the very start of the Spoonful of Sugar , I found Brenda Ashford to be an inspirational lady, I could not wait to read on... Heartwarming and Heartbreaking. As the words and pages past me by, I could not help but feel that warm feeling inside, I think to be one of the many people Brenda has touch would surely be a blessing. Reading these words made my heart swell with such admiration and hope. If I am fortunate enough to make it that far in years, I could only hope to be as blessed as her. Each opening chapter we are given a little nursery rhyme or lullaby, and I can only imagine the number of times she has spoken those words to a sleepy or upset child. Then at the end of them she has included a section titled "The Nannys Wisdom", they are filled with wonderful advice and information, and sometimes one of her family recipes. :) Brenda Ashford has opened up to us and shared so ma

Fallen Too Far (Too Far, #1) by Abbi Glines

Image
Fallen Too Far by Abbi Glines My rating: 4 of 5 stars *Warning slight spoilers* Blaire is a 19 year old girl who has seen some real pain and loss. But she is strong and will not crumble, she will not let herself even if on the inside the ache is there.   She is all she has. After her mothers death, she has to sell her home in order to cover the medical bills that three years of treatment built up. The only family she has is her father, the father she hasn't seen or heard from since he walked out on her and her mother five years ago. Even when her momma was dying there was no word. With nothing but her old truck, 20 bucks to her name and a gun for protection she has no other choice then to turn to him. When she finally arrives what she gets isn't what she expected. Rush is a cocky sob with a sweet side, who has issues like all the bad boys in these new adult books. And I can not seem to get enough of them, I've always been attracted to that head tilt, grin, arched eyebrow,

A Lady of High Regard (Ladies of Liberty, #1) by Tracie Peterson

Image
A Lady of High Regard by Tracie Peterson My rating: 4 of 5 stars A lady of High Regard takes place in 1852 Philadelphia, it deals with areas that a lady of higher standing shouldn't be sticking her nose into. Because after all it isn't proper for women to get involved in such matters of oppression and poverty. She is to be home having tea parties with her friends and gossiping about the latest fashions from Paris. Mai lives a comfortable life, and hadn't realized that in her own town just a few blocks from her home down on the docks, people are living in poverty, barely getting by. Women are left alone to raise a handful of children while the husband has either passed on or are away working on the boats. They can not afford to pay the rent collector, feed their children and pay off their husbands debt. So they are forced to pay in other ways, the men force themselves and make them pay with their bodies or take away a child to sell in labor to pay it off. Through

A Tale of Red Riding: Rise Of The Werewolf Huntress by Neo Edmund

Image
A Tale of Red Riding: Rise Of The Werewolf Huntress by Neo Edmund My rating: 4 of 5 stars Owoooooooo! Who's that I see walkin' in these woods? Why, it's Little Red Riding Hood. Hey there Little Red Riding Hood, You sure are looking good. You're everything a big bad wolf could want. Listen to me. When I first settled down to read this book, Little Red Riding Hood by Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs, popped into my head. When you read the title and blurb you get an image in your head of what you think the tale is going to be about, now take that idea and remove it from your head. Expect the unexpected. What I thought this was going to be and what I read where two different things, and well that's not a bad thing. This could have went two ways, a flop because you have to be careful when working with something that is based on the fairytale or anything that's already in the public mind. Or it can be fantastic and different. It was the latter. We have Red (

Cat Comes Too by Hazel Hutchins, Gosia Mosz (Illustrations)

Image
Cat Comes Too by Hazel Hutchins My rating: 4 of 5 Cupcakes Cat Comes Too by Hazel Hutchins is an adorable little book for smaller children and toddlers. Toddlers will enjoy the story of the little cat as they follow up into the attic and discover all that there is to see and explore. Along with the brightly illustrated pictures the wording is simple and repetitive which is great for little ones starting off reading on their own. A View to Die For by Richard Houston

Image
A View to Die For by Richard Houston My rating: 2 of 5 cupcakes This book was not for me, I love a good mystery. But I did not love this book. Jake's sister, Meg has been accused of murdering her husband Mike, who just happens to be husband number 4. The media have been calling her the Black Widow. On his way to bail her out, he winds up waking up in hospital after he, himself has gotten into an accident. The police believe that both Jake and Meg are involved in the death of Mike. So in order to clear their names, Jake has to do some detective work. I really am not a fan of giving negative reviews but this space here is for me to say what I think. You may not agree, but all my reviews are MY thoughts, are MY opinions. I caught myself dozing off at one point, while sitting in my computer chair reading this. For me I found this book to be well boring, it was only as I neared the end that things seemed to pick up and hold my interest. Which is funny because the start had my atte

Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris

Image
Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris My rating: 3 of 5 stars So I go and pick up this book, I'm pumped. So very excited to be getting back to Sookie and Eric ( wipes drool off my chin). So picture if you will, I have the bottle of red open. I am all cozy and set to read. I stop and go "hmmm". Shake it off as the normal okay we are at the start of the book lets recap for those who might not remember. So I take some more sips and continue on. Stopping yet again, I go "hmm, um, yeah". We are hitting somewhere past the 100 mark and I'm getting a little worried, did I pay for a book that is just recap, recap, recap, filler words to take up space, recap?? I"m starting to think I did. Then FINALLY we start to get somewhere, it only took the better part of the book to do so, but at this point I'm happy and looking forward to the action. And next thing I knew it was over and I was left lying here feeling used and very unsatisfied. I don't want to say this

Surrender the Heart (Surrender to Destiny, #1) by M.L. Tyndall

Image
Surrender the Heart by M.L. Tyndall My rating: 4 of 5 stars Marianne needs to marry in order to receive her inheritance. Money that is so desperately needed for her mother and little sister. After the death of her father they were left with nothing, but an outsider could never tell. They hide it well. Being a little plump and a little plain Marianne doesn't really have a line of young men lining up to court her, so it all comes down to an arranged marriage between the families. She does not want to marry Noah Brenin. Noah isn't overly trilled about the prospect of marriage to Miss. Marianne Denton, something made obvious to her and everyone else when he walks out of their engagement party to set sail for South Hampton. Hoping that this trip will grant him more money then Miss. Denton's inheritance could provide therefore making marriage to her unnecessary. Deciding to give him a piece of her mind and get him to come back to the party she follows him down to his shi

Never Too Late by Amara Royce

Image
Never Too Late by Amara Royce My rating: 4 of 5 stars **I would like to thank Kensington Books for providing me with an arc of Never Too Late , via NetGalley** Lord Devin has been given the job of investigating Honoria Duchamp and the controversial pamphlets she's been printing. Honoria is a widow and the owner of Evans Books, she has also has gotten the attention of those who would like to see these printings come to and end. Upon being given the assignment, Honoria Duchamp was not at all what Lord Devin expected. She is not at all the bookish matron he envisioned, but a smart and beautiful woman. Now there is more then just her pamphlets he would like to investigate. I found myself rather taken with both Honoria and Lord Devin. Honoria is a smart older heroine, independent and a lover of books. Lord Devin, slightly cocky used to getting what he wants. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this Never Too Late although I do however have some issues. Things get mentioned but nothing com

Murder on the Rocks (Gray Whale Inn Mystery, #1) by Karen MacInerney

Image
Murder on the Rocks by Karen MacInerney My rating: 4 of 5 stars I haven't really read that many cozy mysteries, and I found Murder on the Rocks to be rather enjoyable. Set in a small town in Maine, Cranberry Island. Natalie Barnes is one of the newer residents of Cranberry Island is the owner and innkeeper of the Gray Whale Inn, a bed and breakfast. Even thought she's made friends with many of the the folk who live on the island, there are some who are quick to snub and judge when a murder takes place. So on top of running her inn, baking her many goodies for the townsfolk she has a mystery to solve. This was a delightful little story and I found it cute that the author had the recipes for the baked goods that Natalie prepares at the end of the book. Looking forward to my next stay at the Gray Whale Inn. :) 3.5 to 4 stars View all my reviews
