On the Porch Swing

Image
One of the Yahoo group’s I belong to is ‘ On the Porch Swing ‘ they do a challenge each year: For those of you who choose to accept this mission, here is your ontheporchswing book challenge for 2010! 1. Read two books whose title contains the first letter of your first and last name – for example – for me – I would read “The History of Love” or “Land of a Thousand Hills. You can do it in either order HL or LH – or do two of the same – two HL’s or two LH’s…. (hope this makes sense!) 2. Read two books by an author whose first name begins with a “D” – this can be two male authors – two female authors – or one of each. Since I tend to read few books by male authors, I may try to do both of mine for this challenge as male authors. 3. Read one book by a female author whose first name is Mary Undead Unwed by MaryJanice Davidson 4. Read a biography about someone you have always been interested in – or just pick someone you have never heard much about 5. Read a book of short stories 1 a)

Cheerleaders: The New Evil by R.L. Stine

Image
Cheerleaders: The New Evil by R.L. Stine My rating: 3 of 5 stars Pages: 199 The Evil has returned. Corky and her friends thought that they where safe, after drowning the evil in the river last time. But when their friend Hannah get's sent through the window of a car, they start to think could the evil have returned. Then when more events happen they are more then convinced that it had come back, this time taking over the body of Ivy the replacement Cheerleader. Or so they thought. They come up with a plan to drown the evil again, at a skating party they invite everyone, except instead of sending the evil away they actually release it again. Now where did it go? Who has it taken over this time? I liked reading this book, I enjoyed reading the obvious 90's references. Unplugged music and Doc martins gave me a smile.

2010 Create-Your-Own Reading Challenge

So one of the challenges at the goodreads group Romance readers reading Challenge is a 2010 Create-Your-Own Reading Challenge . So I've decided to give it a go. On to my challenge Through out the years I have been given lots of books, either as gifts or bags of books that others have read then they have past them down to me etc. Now these books I personally might not have picked out for my self to read. So that's what my challenge will be this year. Challenge Title: Here have a book. Duration: January 1 2010 to Dec 31 2010 Number of Books: 20 Challenge Description: Read the books that have been given to me, ones that I have not bought/picked out my self. List of Books: None at the moment, I have yet to go through the shelf :D I've only chose to do 20, with all the other challenges I'm trying to do next year 20 seemed like a reasonable number.

Graphic Novels Challenge 2010

Image
So - rules and guidelines: The challenge starts on January 1st 2010 and ends on December 31st (but we don't mind you starting early.) You don't have to make a list beforehand (but you can, of course! Lists are great because they give ideas to people who aren't sure what to read. And if you do make one, don't feel forced to stick to it!) We simplified the levels of participation: you can be a Beginner (3 Comics or Graphic Novels), Intermediate (3-10) or an Expert (10+). You're more than free to adjust your level of participation after the challenge has begun. There will be mini-challenges! Look for a post with more info on that soon. Overlaps with other challenges are totally fine. Interested? Graphic Novel Challenge 2010 I'm probably going to with Beginner but I may change to Intermediate

2010 Chunkster Challenge

Image
Definition of a Chunkster: A chunkster is 450 pages or more of ADULT literature (fiction or nonfiction) ... A chunkster should be a challenge. If you read large type books your book will need to be 525 pages or more ... The average large type book is 10-15% longer or more so I think that was a fair estimate. You must pick a level of participation: The Chubby Chunkster - this option is for the reader who has a couple of large tomes on their TBR list, but really doesn't want to commit to much more than that. 3 books is all you need to finish this challenge. Do These Books Make my Butt Look Big? - this option is for the slightly heavier reader who wants to commit to 4 Chunksters over the next twelve months. Mor-book-ly Obese - This is for the truly out of control chunkster. For this level of challenge you must commit to 6 or more chunksters OR three tomes of 750 pages or more. You know you want to.....go on and give in to your cravings. Interested? Chunkster Reading Challenge This

Dark Desires by Eve Silver

Image
Dark Desires by Eve Silver My rating: 4 of 5 stars Pages: 349 I really liked this book. As a first time reader of Eve Silver I must say that I was really impressed. It kept me on my toes at all times, kept me guessing. Dr Damien Cole was such a hard to read character and that's good because that was the authors plan, he was meant to leave you going hmm. I really liked Darice although at times I will admit I was wondering what she was thinking, for example bedding (and yes I know I used the word bedding) a guy you think is a murderer. Will I read more of her? Oh yes, I think she might end up being a automatic buy for me now.

Dark Lover by J.R. Ward

Image
Dark Lover by J.R. Ward My rating: 3 of 5 stars Book One of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Pages 393 As I was reading I found that the basic storyline to be really interesting but the writing at times kind of got to me. The "funny" moments seemed forced. I wasn't a fan of the names but, I can over look that. Wrath at times reminded me of the Beast from Beauty and the Beast, and yes I mean the Disney cartoon. But over all good book, can't wait to read the second book in the series. I'm looking forward to know what happens to some of the other charters. View all my reviews >>
